A strong return to form. The writing remains tight, the cast chemistry is palpable, and the digital presentation (for those h264 enthusiasts) captures the sitcom aesthetic perfectly.

While Janine is the heart of the show, Principal Ava (Janelle James) is the chaotic electricity keeping the lights on (barely). In S02E01, she attempts to prove she is a "serious" principal, but her methods are, as always, deeply flawed. Her misinterpretation of "security" and her obsession with being the "cool principal" provide some of the episode's biggest laughs.

Janine is determined to make this year different. She has a "growth mindset" (a phrase she uses roughly 47 times) and wants to leave her "bad habits" in the past. Naturally, this resolve is tested immediately. The main plot revolves around a school security system that nobody knows the code for. It’s a classic Abbott setup: a systemic failure that falls on the shoulders of underpaid teachers.

A guest appearance by Gritty (the Philadelphia Flyers mascot) and Gregory dealing with his new status as a full-time teacher.

Janine is determined to start the year right despite her recent breakup. She tries to organize a huge "Development Day" surprise (a Philly Eagles-themed event) that goes slightly off the rails.
